Forte Medical wins prestigious Backed By Doctors Award
Medic Footprints event backed by Doctify and Hale House, part of the Harley Street Health District
At a prestigious event this month, hosted by Medic Footprints and held at Hale House London W1, over 100 GPs gathered for an evening focused on Innovation in Healthcare. The winning vote from the audience and GP Dragons, was unanimous: Forte Medical for Peezy Midstream.
Peezy Midstream is a British innovation designed to transform women’s point of care testing. It was conceived by Dr Vincent Forte, GP of over 20 years, forensic physician and co-author of best-selling Primary Care reference book Symptom Sorter. Giovanna Forte, CEO of Forte Medical received the Award; she is Dr Forte’s sister and has led the commercialisation of Peezy Midstream, taking it from concept to a proven, patented, MHRA registered, FDA listed medical device.
The device collects guideline compliant midstream urine (MSU) for preventative point of care testing for women’s Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and prenatal screening. Peezy Midstream’s award-winning design brings the archaic, messy and flawed urine collection process into the 21st century.
It improves hygiene, preserves dignity and delivers the reassurance of correct treatment for women.
In automating the midstream urine collection process, the device also reduces significant, unwarranted cost attached to repeat appointments and laboratory processes.
The Backed by Doctors Award recognised the contribution Peezy Midstream can make to clinicians, women’s health and healthcare pathways throughout the country.
• 10m women present to GPs with UTI each year
• 600,000 live births each year mean 4.2m routine antenatal urine screens
• National average specimen contamination rates reach as high as 30%
• Peezy Midstream reduces specimen contamination to as low as 0%
• No messy patient intervention of having to place a collection bowl or cup into the urine flow
• Automates midstream collection into the aseptic 10ml tube that fits directly into lab analysers
• No decanting from generic vessel into secondary tube by patient, healthcare professional or lab
Award creator, Medic Footprints, was founded by Dr Abeyna Jones, to help doctors expand their careers and introduce them to innovation that will help engender and build best practice.
Dr Jones says: “I can’t believe this isn’t gold standard for MSU. I am glad our events and initiatives connect the right doctors with some of the best innovations like Peezy Midstream, ensuring they get to patients much sooner.”
Extensive real-world and academic clinical trials show that Peezy Midstream reduces false-positive urine specimens, inaccurate urine samples which can lead to inappropriate antibiotic prescribing, fuelling the growing, global problem of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), especially in women.
Peezy Midstream is proven to promote and provide:
• Precision analysis, diagnosis and targeted prescribing for the 10m women presenting with UTI and 4.2m annual prenatal urine screens
• Reduced retesting and false-positive urines, potentially saving the NHS over £300m every year
• Hygiene and dignity for women and clinical environment: clean hands, clean loo, clean floor
• A 66% saving on GP Primary Care lab spend shown by a Public Health Wales GP study
Testimonials made on the night and on social media:
Backed by Doctors Judge, Dr Ian Morrant said “This is something I can pick up and use in my surgery tomorrow and make things better for patients and my practice. I’m always embarrassed to give a woman the small containers we use and we really do need to focus on the problem of prescribing so many antimicrobials.”
Dr Rajvir Singh: “I’m excited to see the impact Peezy Midstream will have for women’s health, primary care and beyond.”
Dr Craig Wylie: “As a practising GP I can 100% see the immediate applicability of your product in primary care and care home settings. I was sitting with a care home owner and we were both nodding our heads like Churchill dogs in the back seat of cars!”
